Job Description

The Nuclear Medical Technologist is responsible for operating diagnostic imaging equipment to help diagnose and treat diseases. This position prepares and administers purified unstable atoms to patients causing radiopharmaceuticals to emit radiation, which indicates the presence of disease, based on metabolic changes in the patient's body.

Responsibilities:

  • Positions and instructs patients in preparation for the application of radio nuclides using specialized equipment and procedures.
  • IV Insertions for diagnostic testing performed within the department.
  • Makes adjustments to nuclear equipment to correct setting for each examination as prescribed by the attending physician.
  • Handles emergency situations.
  • Reviews the PACS processing of nuclear medicine.
  • Prepares and maintains records and files of procedures.
  • Purges outdated files, as directed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failure, makes repairs where possible.
  • Insures equipment is functioning properly on a continuous basis.
  • Requisitions supplies, as needed; Consults with referring physicians as required.
  • May assist in providing training and technical direction to technicians and nurses in nuclear procedures and processes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relations with medical and nursing staff to insure adequate and timely servicing of patients.
  • May be requested to assist in the development of techniques for procedures.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment and procedures not routinely employed.
  • Participates in continuing education programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Effectively uses automated systems to perform work assignments.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred; new graduates may be considered.

Education: Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology Program, Certified in Nuclear Technology, required.

Licenses / Certifications: Must possess certification and maintain current registration with either the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
