About the Role:

Our client is a fast-growing software focused climate tech startup on a mission to mitigate the effects of climate change through smarter energy use. Backed by top-tier venture and impact investors, they are entering a growth phase and are hiring a Vice President of Software Engineering to scale their software platform and team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a distributed engineering organization, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and mission alignment
• Serve as a thought partner to executive leadership on long-term technical strategy and growth planning
• Set technical direction and oversee architecture decisions for a cloud-native platform managing connected devices and real-time energy data
• Hire and develop engineering managers and ICs while preserving startup agility and speed
• Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and commercial teams to deliver scalable, high-performance features across both consumer and utility-facing applications
• Drive engineering excellence across the board from secure integrations to CI/CD practices to developer tooling and mentorship
• Ensure operational excellence, including performance, scalability, reliability, and technical debt management

Qualifications

• 12+ years in software engineering, including experience scaling SaaS platforms or distributed systems
• Prior leadership of engineering teams in high-growth, early-stage environments (experience managing managers required)
• Prior experience taking an early stage startup through a period of growth (to the 100+ employee stage)
• Prior experience scaling cloud-based software systems
• Prior experience with cloud platforms, backend systems, and scalable architecture
• Proven ability to build inclusive and high-performing remote teams
• Strong communication and product sensibility; capable of translating business needs into technical execution
• Passion for climate solutions and software innovation with energy platforms
