About the Role
The New Jersey Senate is seeking a Legislative Operations Assistant to serve as the key link between the Senate Secretary’s Office and the Assembly Clerk’s Office. This role is vital to ensuring that legislation moves accurately, efficiently, and securely between the two chambers.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment during legislative sessions. This position offers a unique opportunity to experience the inner workings of the New Jersey Legislature and support the lawmaking process firsthand.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as the official liaison between the Senate Secretary’s Office and the Assembly Clerk’s Office.
· Coordinate the physical delivery and receipt of bills, messages, and legislative documentation.
· Track legislative activity in both chambers and provide timely updates to Senate leadership.
· Assist with session planning, including coordinating guests, clergy, and ceremonial participants.
· Prepare and distribute official session materials such as scripts, co-sponsorship lists, and withdrawal lists.
· Manage voting-day workflows by ensuring bills are properly signed, logged, and delivered between chambers.
· Maintain detailed and accurate records of legislative movement and actions.
Qualifications
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks under time pressure.
· Professional demeanor, reliability, and discretion when handling legislative materials.
· Working knowledge of the legislative process is helpful but not required.
· Previous experience in government, public service, or administrative support is preferred.
