Position: Embedded Firmware Developer
Location: Round Rock, TX (100% Onsite)
Job Type: Fulltime
Key Responsibilities
•
Design, develop, and maintain low-level embedded firmware in C/C++ for real-time, high-reliability industrial devices.
•
Architect firmware modules compliant with IEC 62368, UL 508, ATEX, and IECEx directives.
•
Develop and optimize bootloaders, secure firmware update mechanisms, and memory-safe drivers for communication interfaces and sensors.
•
Utilize ARM Cortex-M MCU platforms and hardware abstraction layers (HALs), such as ST HAL, CMSIS, or Silicon Labs SDKs.
•
Perform hardware-in-loop (HIL) validation, timing analysis, and fault injection testing to ensure system robustness.
•
Integrate support for industrial fieldbus protocols: Modbus RTU/TCP, PROFIBUS, and HART communication stacks.
•
Author technical documents including safety analysis reports, firmware architecture design documents, certification support artifacts, and regulatory submission manuals.
•
Implement secure coding practices to meet functional safety (SIL) levels, tamper resistance, and secure boot standards.
•
Work cross-functionally with hardware engineers, product safety leads, and compliance teams to align firmware design with industry and government requirements.
•
Assist with pre-compliance testing, including EMC, temperature cycling, electrical stress, and explosive atmosphere safety tests.
•
Support plant-floor commissioning activities, firmware diagnostics, and firmware updates for embedded devices deployed in hazardous industrial zones.
Mandatory Qualifications
•
10+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware development for industrial-grade systems.
•
Proven delivery of firmware for UL-certified or IEC/ATEX-certified products (e.g., intrinsically safe devices).
•
Advanced knowledge of embedded system design constraints: power management, RTOS integration, and watchdog timers.
•
Deep experience with ARM Cortex-M (M0/M3/M4/M7) microcontrollers and common debugging tools such as JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
•
Understanding of hardware schematics, PCB layouts, and low-level signal interfacing.
•
Desirable Skills
•
Familiarity with RTOS platforms (FreeRTOS, Micrium, Zephyr).
•
Experience integrating secure bootloaders and crypto libraries (e.g., WolfSSL, MbedTLS).
•
Exposure to IEC 61508, SIL-2/3, or ISO 13849 functional safety development lifecycles.
•
Prior experience with Regulatory Audits, UL Field Inspections, or FM Approvals.
•
Experience using Version Control (Git), Continuous Integration, and Automated Unit Testing for embedded environments.
•
Hands-on with CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, and custom device protocols.
