Automation Engineer – Relocate to Indiana

Overview:

A leading global pharmaceutical company is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join its Drug Substance, Design & Delivery team.

This role will contribute to the development and optimization of automation solutions for advanced manufacturing and drug development processes.

Organizational Overview:

The Automation Engineer role requires a background in process control and automation, with expertise in DCS programming (preferably DeltaV) and experience in automated API manufacturing or related processes.

Initially supporting the design and delivery phase within the Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) team, the role will transition to long-term operational support as the facility nears completion.

GPACE is a part of the Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC), providing automation, measurement, and process control solutions, as well as technical training, standards, and capital project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety compliance and identify opportunities for improving both personnel and equipment safety.
  • Lead and contribute to automation engineering projects across various platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership in automation and control disciplines, including solution assessment, best practice development, and engineering standards.
  • Support automation design during all project phases, ensuring efficiency, lifecycle cost-effectiveness, and the elimination of unnecessary complexity.
  • Oversee automation delivery, including system integration with IT platforms, process development, and architectural planning.
  • Manage project deliverables and direct contingent/contract workers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline.
  • Extensive experience with the Emerson DeltaV platform.
  • Minimum of six years of experience in automation.
  • Knowledge of ISA S95 and S88 principles.
  • Proven technical leadership in automation project delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of drug substance manufacturing, particularly batch processes.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with validated systems and DeltaV Live.
  • Knowledge of additional DCS or PLC platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Additional Information:

  • Travel requirements include domestic and occasional international travel (approximately 10%), with opportunities for increased travel or short-/long-term site relocation as needed.
