The successful candidate will have a strong technical foundation in AV hardware and lighting systems, excellent vendor management skills, and the ability to bridge communication between design teams, project management, and specialty contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Oversight

  • Ensure that all AV hardware, control systems, and lighting designs align with project specifications, design intent, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate integration of AV and lighting systems with exhibit fabricators, architects, and other trades.
  • Provide technical direction to vendors on system layouts, hardware specifications, and infrastructure requirements.

  • Monitor vendor engineering schedules to ensure timely delivery of documentation and hardware.

Vendor & Site Oversight

  • Oversee installation sequencing and coordinate with general contractors, exhibit fabricators, and museum facilities teams.
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges in the field by working with vendor engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, fire codes, and museum operational requirements.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover of AV and lighting systems.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of experience in AV engineering, systems integration, or technical project management; museum or cultural projects preferred.
  • Strong background in AV hardware, control systems, networking, and signal distribution.
  • Experience with lighting design and control systems (architectural, theatrical, and exhibit lighting).
  • Proven ability to oversee vendors, subcontractors, and specialty contractors in engineering and installation environments.
  • Familiarity with structural coordination, cable routing, power distribution, and environmental controls.
  • Skilled in reviewing shop drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong organizational and project-tracking skills across multiple vendors and disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • CTS, CTS-D, or related AV/lighting certifications preferred.
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification preferred.

Key Attributes

  • Detail-oriented with a strong technical and aesthetic eye.
  • Skilled at balancing technical performance with client and design expectations.
  • Collaborative team leader who builds strong relationships with vendors while holding them accountable.
  • Proactive problem solver who anticipates technical and scheduling challenges.
  • Comfortable representing the project team in engineering meetings, shop reviews, and on-site installations.
